6 years of eargym: a quick reflection

This Wednesday, May 6th, eargym officially turns six.

I’m amazed by all that’s happened since we incorporated eargym on 6th May 2020. What began as a conversation about the awful impact of unaddressed hearing loss has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. As we hit this milestone, my overwhelming feeling isn't just pride in the product—it’s gratitude for the people.

6 milestones we’re proud of

We’ve evolved quite a bit from our early days. eargym isn’t  just an app anymore; it’s a piece of the puzzle in how people age well.  Here’s what the last six years have looked like in numbers and impact:

  1. 2 Million+ Checks: We’ve helped over 2.3 million people worldwide check their ear age, often for the first time in their lives.

  2. World-Class Collaboration: Collaborating with giants like the Cleveland Clinic to build products built around real user’s needs and daily lives

  3. Medical-Grade Standards:  Rigorously meeting the standards required to become a registered medical device in three important global regions: UK Class 1, EU Class 1 and FDA Class 2.

  4. Auditory training:  Informed by science that shows that practising listening can improve your overall hearing capacity by up to 25% in just 7 weeks, eargym's bespoke, enjoyable training games have delivered over 230,285 training minutes, creating vital real world evidence for this important research topic.

  5. The Dementia Link:  With much appreciated grant funding support of Innovate UK and the Alzheimer’s Society, building a product that is designed by users, including individuals living with dementia, ensuring we can make our best contribution to research around the known correlation between hearing health and cognitive decline.

  6. B Corp Status: Not just building a business, but building one that contributes positively to the world we love in. Becoming a certified B Corp was a massive moment for us.

To the 50+ people who made this happen - thank you

eargym is a mosaic of the 50+ team members who have worked with us over the years. To every engineer, researcher, and creative who has sat around our table (virtual or otherwise): thank you. You took a vision and made it work.

And to our supporters—the investors who took the risk, the grant funders who backed the science, and our paying customers who trust us with their hearing—you are the reason we’re still here and still growing.

What’s next?

eargym now has the technology to build the world’s biggest hearing and cognition database and we’re talking to potential funding partners about how to make this happen as soon as possible.

Our supportive international partnerships in the USA, Europe and Asia mean that we can and will continue to develop eargym to best meet the hearing needs of working age and older people. As we look toward the next six years, our mission remains the same: helping you hear better, for longer.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Six years is such a milestone, and I love that you're celebrating the people behind it as much as the product itself. The 2.3 million ear age checks really hit me — that's so many people who probably never thought twice about their hearing until eargym came along. Speaking of visual quality, this reminds me of that low quality image maker tool that intentionally degrades images for memes — it's funny how sometimes we're trying to make things clearer, and other times we're doing the exact opposite. Here's to the next six years!

Six years of turning a hard conversation into real impact—that’s worth celebrating. The shift from “just an app” to a genuine piece of the hearing health puzzle is exactly why I’ve been following your journey, and I’m curious to see where the next chapter leads. Six years is a hell of a milestone, and that shift from "just an app" to a real piece of the hearing health puzzle is exactly why this work matters. Gratitude for the people is the best takeaway—check out the full reflection https://thingiverse.app
