Many of us turn to sound in some way when we’re looking to relax, whether it’s by listening to a favourite album, engaging in a conversation with friends, or immersing yourself in nature. Familiar sounds can help us feel at ease and connected to the world around us, while nature sounds in particular are proven to help alleviate stress and relax us.
However, as we all go about our daily lives it can be difficult to find the time to simply stop and appreciate our hearing. It’s an immensely powerful sense and it never switches off - providing us with joyful experiences for us to enjoy whilst helping to keep us safe throughout our lives.
Our ears age just like the rest of our body, and as we grow older it can gradually become harder to hear the full range of sounds that we’ve always enjoyed. As age-related hearing loss tends to happen gradually, many of us don’t notice the subtle changes in our hearing until much later. However, engaging with your hearing now and understanding how to protect it will allow you to continue enjoying all your favourite sounds that bring joy into later life.
